1972 (see note below) |
1971 Oshawa Central |
1972: A labour dispute resulted in no formal games for the season. Within Oshawa, Donevan would defeat Eastdale for the City Championship however a column in the Oshawa Times indicated that the championship had been awarded to Courtice by the teachers. The labour dispute did not affect the Kawartha-Pine Ridge board of which Courtice was a member. In the Oshawa Championship game, coaching was handled by school graduates and coaches from the Oshawa Hawkeyes football program
The trophy for the league champions does not have a plaque for 1972 which implies that either Courtice was awarded the Junior Championship only (the Junior trophy does have a plate) or someone removed the plate at a later date. It should be noted that Courtice apparently did not win a football game during 1971 at either the Junior or Senior Level, which would not have bode well for the 1972 Senior team.
Tier Two / Bronze / B Championships
The "B" Championships were introduced in 2001 due to the growth of football within Durham and several different formats were used for the "B" Pool playdowns. The formats used are listed in reverse chronological order:
2013: Teams finishing seventh through tenth in the AAAA Division competed for the Tier Two Championship.
2008 - 2012: The league was divided into two Tiers with each Tier playing down to a champion.
2007: The teams ranked ninth through sixteenth played for the B Championship
2006: The teams finishing fifth through eighth in both divisions advanced to the B Championship
2005: The teams finishing fourth through sixth in each of the two divisions played for the B Championship
2004: The two teams who lost in the semi-final played for the Bronze award
2003 - 2004: The two teams who lost in the semi-final played for the Bronze award
2001 - 2002: Teams finishing fifth through eighth played for the B Championship
AA/AAA Champions
2014 O'Neill |
2013 St. Stephen |
The AA/AAA Division was introduced at the Senior level in 2013 to provide competition for the smaller sized schools within the Durham Region based on OFSAA classifications. Schools meeting this criteria may elect to compete in the AAAA Senior division. Although the regular season schedules are intermixed, separate division standings are kept to determine playoff structure.
In 2014, there were six eligible schools: Bowmanville, Eastdale, Holy Trinity, O'Neill, Paul Dwyer and St. Stephen. Holy Trinity, Paul Dwyer and St. Stephen each elected to compete within the AAAA division.
In 2013, there were five eligible schools: Bowmanville, Eastdale, Holy Trinity, Paul Dwyer and St. Stephen. Of these five, both Holy Trinity and Paul Dwyer elected to compete within the AAAA division.
